The Picture Show

Posted by admin On January - 19 - 2010

The Picture Show started in Northern California where three eleven-year-old friends, Dan Stewart, Aaron Jespersen, and Ryan Ito, began producing no-budget camcorder movies. The band insists that this history of movie making has relevance to the rock and roll music they now create. “For one thing, we got our creative differences and ego issues in check when we were eleven,” says Stewart. “We were obsessed with making movies by any means necessary,” Stewart adds, “and we often used fictitious names in the credits.” “The end result was what mattered the most. Not individual credit,” says Jespersen. “We were very ambitious about it, too. We naively believed that we could shoot a movie in my backyard that would be as awesome as The Terminator. We were big thinkers.” Stewart adds, “It could be said that we brought a similar naiveté to the table years later when we set out to start a band.”
When Stewart, Jespersen, and Ito turned eighteen, they were interested in trying something new. “Dan’s brother was a guitar player,” says Ito, “he had a Strat and a Marshall half stack. One night, we took turns on his guitar, banging out nonsense chords for a while. Then, in some sort of burst of inspiration, we looked at each other and said, ‘Let’s start a band.” None of the three had any real experience with songwriting, instrumentation, or stage performance. “We had little more than a passion for music and the bands that created it,” says Jespersen, “choosing our roles for the band was pretty much arbitrary.” “Dan and Ryan wanted to try guitar and so I said I’d be the singer. We were basically three random guys starting a band from absolutely nothing. By all rights we should have ended up the worst band of all time.”
As soon as Stewart and Ito figured out how to string a few notes together they started writing music. The trio had developed a strong work ethic during their movie making days and they brought it with them into their music. The first thing they did as a band was to write and record three full-length albums. “Music was this new medium for us that we were very excited about,” says Ito. “We had this archaic recording device that we used to record our albums. We did three LPs in about three months. Most of the recordings were fairly atrocious but there were a few gems in there and we were definitely sensing potential. We started to feel like we were really onto something.” Of the thirty-eight songs on these tapes, one of them was notably titled The Picture Show.
A few years, many songs, and countless performances later, the band had developed into a powerful act. Having relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, they recorded and performed under different band names and with different drummers for several years. They chose the band name The Picture Show and enlisted Minnesota native Brad Daninger as their permanent drummer in 2005. “I really connected with their sound,” says Daninger, “and I wanted to show them I had something to add to it.” Needless to say he made a huge impression. “When Brad joined the band we truly felt like we had finally become the band we had always wanted to be,” says Stewart, “Our sound was complete and we felt prepared to take things to the next level.”
Their debut album, Shatters Into Discontent, contains twelve tracks ranging from epic to rocking to ballad and back again.
In 2007 The Picture Show signed with 10spot Records and released the album with distribution by Universal Music Group on February 19, 2008. “Playing in a band, you’re constantly striving to reach new levels and new plateaus. Signing with 10spot has definitely brought us to a new level and we’re very excited about the opportunities that lay before us,” says Stewart. “Creatively, we’re very inspired and focused right now,” adds Jespersen, “We’re working on lots of new material for our second album. We’re completely motivated to keep raising the bar for ourselves.”

Tragic Orange

Posted by admin On May - 24 - 2009

tragicTragic Orange is Phill Skiba (vocals), Christina Vitucci (drums), Jimmy Pavlis (bass), Steve Valdez(Guitar) and Victor Fakhoury (Guitar) The 5 piece rock band is originally from Long island New York, but they portray a very strong international phenomenon, with each member’s different ethnic background and north American upbringing, they have brought the missing link in the sound for today’s modern music.

The band was formed in 2005, and after many auditions and a very solid self titled album under their belt, the line up was finalized with the joining of Jimmy Pavlis on bass and Victor Fakhoury on guitar. The band quickly grew musically as the 5 members made sure to mold them selves on to one another’s inspirations and musical taste, with an endless amount of hours in the rehearsal studio the bands sound has gown and developed dramatically, Their melodic and haunting verses and brightly open hard hitting catchy choruses as well as their mind invading sing along vocals, won’t stop ringing in the listeners head.

They have captured the hearts of many fans thru their unique musicianship, Christina’s power drumming reminiscent of John Bonham keeps the strong back bone timing of the band in check , Jimmy’s hard thumping bass patterns and driving rhythms keeps you locked into the music, Steve’s V. playing creates a landscape of sound typically not heard out of a guitar , Vik’s rhythmic playing and worldly tripy effects makes you feel the trance within, and finally Phill’s soaring melodies and lucid, poetic lyrics reaches like a hand to grab your mind and make you feel every word that is utterd out of his heart, drilled it into yours.

Their stage presence has been known to be one of the most energetic experiences crowds have witnessed, the band has performed on numerous stages; ending 2007 with over a 100 shows played in and out of state in front of many fans that remain loyal to the music the madness and the method behind the Tragic… Tragic orange’s musical and lyrical journey consists of all walks of life, the ups and downs the bright and dark, spiritual and sexual, aggression and confusion; examining what’s on the minds of the youth of this generation but light hearted enough to enjoy this chaotic party. Keep your eyes open and your ears to the ground for tragic orange’s accelerating momentum towards success; exploding on to the scene soon for the world to hear.

Mr. Bella

Posted by admin On May - 23 - 2009

Tampa outfit Mr. Bella draws influence from every corner of the modern rock landscape to create their own genre-obliterating melodic style, an engaging, guitar-driven sound as ready for Contemporary Alternative radio as it is for the Hard Music format. Equal parts hook and pummel, Mr. Bella stands apart by infusing its hypnotic rhythms with pop-inspired songwriting smarts and a knack for the catchy stuff. The band came together with the idea of blending their various favorite sonics, from bouncy, infectious Old Wave through jagged, energetic New Metal, into their own new and unique identity. The dynamic results immediately struck a chord with music fans whose tastes run throughout the ambiguous terrain of modern rock fans who don’t care what you call it, they only care that it’s good. Mr. Bella’s self-produced EP, Ka-Boom!, quickly sold out, and the group’s mesmerizing live sets earned them a reputation as one of Florida’s most buzzworthy new acts. The 2002 release of “…premise” proved that they matured exponentially since the Ka-Boom! days.

Mr. Bella ’s command of compelling melody and the heavy groove has only grown stronger with experience and ever-increasing attention, and their shows are consistently among the Bay area’s most talked-about live-music spectacles. Aggro-diva Erin Marie alternately snarls and soars over Noah’s meaty, textured guitar work, anchored and deftly complemented by Amir’s throbbing, energetic basslines and the locked-in rhythms of drummer Cristian Ripoll. Mr. Bella gained the respect of their peers and an ever-growing audience by refusing to be pigeonholed, and creating their own eclectic yet immensely appealing post-alternative persona. They do their own thing their own thing just happens to be a timely, spectrum-spanning interpretation of modern rock’s best elements. Mr. Bella has supported such disparate recording artists as Sevendust, Tantric, Taproot, Lit, Hoobastank, Hollywood Undead, The Exies, The Toadies, Oleander, Marcy’s Playground, Full Devil Jacket and are currently performing showcases in support of their latest CD release, titled “Too Far” and are releaseing their upcoming CD with Brett Hestla of Dark New Day producing in summer 2009.

Stereoside

Posted by admin On May - 22 - 2009

In early 2006, STEREOSIDE’S founding members, Chris York (Drums), Ben Foster (Guitar-Vocals) and David Oliver (Bass) added Jeff Shields (Vocals). Instead of pursuing a career in Country music, Jeff rejected many major label offers to become the front man for STEREOSIDE. With Jeff’s unique and powerful vocals, a tight rhythm section, and hard driving guitars, STEREOSIDE was bound to be a rock powerhouse.

In March 2007, STEREOSIDE signed with fast-growing, indie label Bieler Bros. Records and without hesitation, entered the Bieler Bros. studio to record their debut album, “So Long”. “We made the record we wanted to make. We feel as though the record shines with our tribute to rock influences along with our own style, therefore, creating timeless rock songs.”-STEREOSIDE.

STEREOSIDE finished production on their album, “So Long”, and released it September 25th, 2007. The first single from the effort, “SINNER” impacted active and alternative rock on May 1st, 2007. The band received overwhelming feedback from program directors across the country who deemed the track “a huge breakout single”.

The second hard hitting single “SO LONG” impacted rock radio stations nationwide June 2008, further establishing STEREOSIDE into a force to be reckoned with.

As the singles were released, there was a great response of support for the band. STEREOSIDE was invited by rock stations across the country to play alongside Buckcherry, Sevendust, and fellow label-mates Nonpoint. Since, the band has shared stages with the likes of Smile Empty Soul, Socialburn, The Exies, 10 Years, Kittie, 12 Stones, Hinder, Papa Roach, Revelation Theory, Black Stone Cherry, Alterbridge, Saliva, Shinedown, POD, Filter, etc. As a result of their powerful stage presence, STEREOSIDE has created a frenzy of fans nationwide.

“ON OUR WAY”, STEREOSIDE’s third single is impacting rock radio March 16th, 2009. In support of the singles release, STEREOSIDE has hit the road touring the U.S. Check out STEREOSIDE in a town near you as they begin their path to become the next great band in rock history! Horns Up!

Black In The Mind

Posted by admin On May - 22 - 2009

In a small central Florida town in the beginning months of 2007, singer and songwriter Michael Folds had a revelation. His dream to build a band combined with his brilliantly written guitar segments that set a new standard in the world of music was placed in full effect. Accompanying Michael’s inconceivable vocal range and dominating performance, bassist Ryan Sylvester saw promise to his mission and immediately joined him. Ryan’s assembly of undulating bass lines and intense, inimitable stage performances contributed greatly to the start of a new generation of music. The work now had begun, and finding and making a name for themselves was just the beginning chapter.

They needed to find the perfect band name, a name that would catch the minds of the fans and draw in the others. They came up with ‘Black in the Mind’. So what does it mean? The question itself can almost be the answer you’re looking for; it’s whatever you want it to be. Being Black in the Mind is easy; you simply “black out” your mind and allow your thoughts and worries of everyday life to dissolve into nothing. When you free your mind of everything, you find yourself in the right state of mind to really hear music. To be Black in the Mind, you must be able to “hear” the music. If so, the music will be free to take your imagination anywhere it wants to go. This creates a strong bond between the music and the listener, a personal relationship. This is what music is and does for us. So there it is- Black in the Mind is more than just an idea; it’s a place, a feeling, a safe haven of escape that’s always there when needed. You can make it whatever you want; it’s your musical world to customize.

Even with a band name, the two were still missing the musicians that had the talent and commitment to fill in the open positions at drummer and rhythm guitar.
Finalizing the lineup was just the first step and they quickly succeeded at this task as Brandon Crowley (drums) and Chuck Knickerbocker (guitar/backup vocals) filled the voids with unprecedented talent and drive.

The next step was to start promoting and performing to the public. They did this by playing almost anywhere; the 4 were determined to make a name for themselves. Through their eccentric stage presence which included 360 jumps and intense audience participation from Ryan, the incredible, mind-numbing drumming talents of Brandon, and the mesmerizing harmonies that Chuck and Michael produced almost effortlessly; their stage performance caught the fans and helped create an extremely loyal fan base.

Already creating a rather large buzz, their full length CD would establish the now inevitable victory in their battle to prove to the world that they could accomplish anything. This dream for achievement is now becoming a reality and is only a matter of time before Black in the Mind performs their stories of love, hate and experiences of life to the world and perseveres in the overtake of a person’s mind; putting them in that place of pure bliss; with no consideration of any elements except that of music.
